An exciting storyteller and magical balloon twister will be visiting the libraries in July as part of the summer long festivities connected to the summer reading celebration.

The first performer, Indiana Bones, will be at both libraries on Thursday, July 8 at 11 a.m. downtown and 2 p.m. at RCPL-North inside General Beadle Elementary School. Indiana’s program is “The Stories of the Seas and Stars.” He will bring his pet dragon, “Draco the Sea Serpent” as they dig up old Greek myths of Poseidon “Master of the Waves”, Medusa the ugly gorgon and other Greek heroes.  Indiana has been an author, explorer, folklorist, mythologist, educational storyteller and performing artist for more than 30 years. He is a full-time professional story teller and a guest lecturer at the University of New Mexico. He resides in Santé Fe, N.M. We will have a return performance from Mr. Twister on Monday, July 19 at 10 a.m. downtown and 2 p.m. at RCPL-North inside General Beadle Elementary School.  Mr. Twister was here a couple of years ago and entertained everyone with his balloon twisting, magic and juggling show. Mr. Twister, a.k.a. Bob Anderson, started his career as a full-time balloon artist in 1998. Juggling became a part of his repertoire and before long he worked magic into his show. He currently resides in Sioux Falls. Learn more about Mr. Twister at www.mrtwister.org.

The library’s summer reading program also includes a Family Adventure Scavenger Hunt where families can hunt throughout the city and online to find answers to 15 questions. All of the questions are water-related following the summer theme of Make a Splash and Catch a Wave! Once the scavenger hunt booklet is complete, bring it to either library and receive a prize and get entered into a drawing for a basket of prizes at the end of the summer reading program on August 31.

Story times have been very popular this summer including an additional story time at General Beadle on Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m. That gives families three opportunities in the mornings to attend a story time.  Downtown story times are on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:30 a.m.

The Orlando Chamber Soloists Musical Teddy Bear Series will continue their guest appearance at the Tuesday story times on July 13 and July 20. Ferdinand the Bull with violin accompaniment will be featured on July 13 and the Ugly Duckling featuring the cello will take place on July 20. Children are encouraged to bring their Teddy Bears with them. This series is designed to introduce young people to classical music as the stories are read to them.

Family story times continue on the second and third Tuesdays of the month. In July you can catch the story time downtown on July 13 and at General Beadle on July 20. They start at 6 p.m. and include stories along with pizza.
